Sunset

I asked one of the mandur the other day why he do not bother to use umbrella under the frying sun, he replied in his heavy hakka slang "bukan tidak mau pakai, tapi itu saya punya olang pun olang juga, jadi sama-sama panas lah". This kind of leadership never fail to gain the respect.

Sunset seen through my window.

The Bosses

While doing a site inspection last week, i had this conversation with a fellow worker. He is an Indonesian mandur from Java. And his slang makes me miss Bandung!

I called him bapak, which he said inappropriate becouse the title bapak should only be used for managers and people who works at the bank. That makes me think on how inappropriate Sabahan usage of 'Boss'. All are bosses, from the road sweeper to the managers behind desks. At some part of the land they even calls their husband boss. It's so common you will hear us calling "boss" for the bill at mamak stall.

It may be a discrepancy on the language, but it's a sign of equality or we are just too lazy remembering each others name. So, I called Munir boss from that day onwards.

this a spacer ring. kinda love this pix.
